Empowering Community Volunteers in 10+ States via AI-Powered Mentor ChatBot

Project Overview

In collaboration with Video Volunteers, we designed, tested, and launched StoryGuru, an AI-powered Mentor ChatBot aimed at empowering community correspondents. This initiative supports Video Volunteers' mission to amplify the voices of marginalised communities through locally owned media production. By providing quick access to information and creative ideas, StoryGuru enhances the productivity and quality of content creation among community correspondents.

Engagement Structure

A team of 1 consultant led this 3-month engagement as part of a larger 6 month engagement to develop the ChatBot, conduct AI literacy training, and ensure its effective rollout. The project focused on iterative development, user feedback, and training to optimise the tool for non-tech-savvy users.

Key Objectives

  • ChatBot Design & Testing:

    Create an intuitive ChatBot flow that meets the needs of community correspondents, followed by thorough testing to ensure functionality and ease of use.

  • AI Literacy Training:

    Equip community correspondents with the knowledge needed to understand and leverage the capabilities of the ChatBot, promoting greater adoption.

  • Rollout Strategy:

    Develop a comprehensive rollout plan that addresses the challenges of introducing new technology to a less tech-savvy audience.

  • Ongoing Improvements:

    Implement a system for collecting feedback and iterating on the ChatBot’s knowledge base and functionalities.

Methodology

The engagement utilised a user-centred approach, focusing on continuous feedback and improvement:

ChatBot Flow Changes & Testing:

Conducted collaborative discussions with stakeholders to co-design the ChatBot flow. Implemented changes based on feedback to refine the flow and knowledge base. Conducted thorough testing of the application to prepare for the rollout.

ChatBot Rollout:

Researched best practices for introducing a ChatBot to a less tech-savvy audience, particularly addressing knowledge gaps regarding AI. Developed training plans for trainers and created instructional materials, including demo videos and training decks. Produced weekly product analytics reports to monitor adoption rates and identify friction points. Compiled unsatisfactory response reports to refine and update the knowledge base regularly.

Enhancements & Improvements:

Explored automating processes through WhatsApp group integration to streamline interactions. Investigated transitioning from Jugalbandi to OpenAI API to enhance response quality and relevance.
